I had a Splendid Spoon account for some time (~2 years maybe?), and while initially I may have rated this a 3 or 4, regrettably they've fallen off hard in recent months.

First, the positives. I do genuinely enjoy the soups. I found them flavorful, and that they heated well. I was particularly fond of the red lentil dal and the tomatillo green chili. (The poblano chili they replaced the latter with is also very good.) As far as the meals go, I found all the noodles dishes were pretty good on the rare occasion when I could enjoy them. Food never arrived unchilled. The customer service, when I dealt with them, was also kind and attentive.

The positives end there, however. In the beginning, if I had an issue with packaging, it was almost always restricted to the meals - whatever process they used to seal the film onto the container would fail, and the meals would arrive with the film unsealed at the corners. Huge health risk. I never had an issue with the soups or the smoothies before, but that has changed since they changed their packaging and shipping process. Now, almost every meal and some of the soups arrive with this issue. Not only that, but the new packaging they use for the meals is now WORSE - the cardboard container doesn't hold the film at the corners, and won't let go of it around the edges. You are forced to use a knife or scissors to remove it now, unless you want to pull out the inner lining with it. Additionally, where the smoothies used to arrive chilled but not frozen, now they arrive frozen solid. This may not be an issue for some, but I found them to be a textural nightmare when they defrosted - they separate out and become gritty, chunky, unpleasant messes where before they were smooth.

I think with some major QC changes, I could recommend them again, but as things stand now this service is sadly a waste of money. Very disappointing.

None of the food is nutritious. 4% potassium? 20% saturated fat? A little bottle of spinach/apple/ginger that has like 2% iron? I just ate the Dan Dan Noodles: Total Fat 19%. To be fair, the dishes were tasty.....ahhh...call 911

Would you pay $7 for 3/4 of a cup of rice? If so, then sign up. The food was good but nothing splendid or to write home about. I can get the same food at Trader Joe’s. The driving reason we stopped at one order is it’s simply super overpriced. The serving size is falsely advertised as two per bowl. So one serving is 6 oz. So if $7 for 3/4 of a cup of rice is your thing - sign up.

UPDATE: I apologize to splendid spoon. I should have given the food more time. Yes, some of the smoothies were not delicious, but I've eaten FABULOUS, TASTY and FILLING soups. Also, their customer service I found to be impeccable. I recommend giving them a try. My son and husband enjoyed the smoothies.

I was looking for something like Splendid Spoon as I have health issues and do not have the energy to prepare healthy, healing meals. I was a bit skeptical at first but the flavor is amazing. Even more, my hunger is satisfied after each meal.

Terrible customer service - flawed cancellation policy and they shipped two weeks worth of food within a few days. My fridge/freezer is not big enough. Also keep seasoning handy as everything is bland.
