Very respectful and helpful staff even though it's a mom and daughter owners. Very knowledgeable in their products. Inexpensive supplies and a large selection of poles. I highly recommend going to see them for your fishing needs. I've been going to them for many years even when they were at the old Kalihi bowl place.

Update: August 15th. Had a discussion with others in the same business.

While the behavior towards me was not appropriate it bears to mention what seems to be happening in shops...petty theft. Even if law enforcement is called there is little that can be done address the situation(s). Most shops cannot afford to have theft drive down revenue they need to stay in business. They have rent, utilities, payroll, employee medical, insurance, etc. Perhaps their fishing supply association can collaborate to address situation.

I have a recommendation that falls inline with the COVID-19 protocols. Limit the number of patrons in at a given time (Charley's & Brian's does this). Brian's has you sign in so if there is a reported case of COVID-19 they can use that "contract tracing" to contact customers. I believe this is a good idea with the lack of same by local government. Perhaps a little inconvenient but reasonable. Personally in addition, "see something...say something". By the way, Walmart creates a cul de sac in the cosmetic and fishing supply aisles to monitor customers. It seems that theft in these departments have been chronic.

Again, while I did not appreciate my personal interaction at J&E I can understand their level of frustration. It takes a few bad apples to mess it up for the rest of us.

As I said in my original Review they have a great offering of products on their shelves and support our local fishing supply businesses.

On August 12th I had rather unfortunate experience with their sales person. When I first got there she was helping a customer and appeared to be engaged in a personal conversation. Wanting to be considerate I opted to browse a bit. I must admit the store does have a decent offering. I found a small pack of ceramic beads for grub and lure rigs.

When the customer left I asked about what appeared to be a unique float and her response was rather curt reply, "Well what do you think it is?" I told her it did look like a float but nothing that I was familiar with for a float rig. I asked how weight (ballast) could be added for casting. She never answered the question.

I went on to let her know that Hanapaa Fishing Supply had recommended them for some cut pieces of reflective lure tape. She pointed to a box and when I went to the box she told me to step back and told me to go to the counter to look at the tape. I picked one and figured I better cut my session short. I did apologize if I did anything that put her in a bad mood. No response.

Sale was rung up and gave her my charge card since touchless transactions has been the recommended means for payment. She curtly asked if I had cash. I said no and this seemed to upset her even more.

Transaction was completed and I left. I did mention to her that all the fishing supply outlets have been gracious and helpful and I cannot say that J&E would be on my preferred list.

However, I must say they do seem to carry a decent variety of supplies hence the two stars.

Mom and daughter been around the fishing game long time. Very knowledgable and know their stuff. Great place to come buy bulk hooks and swivels. They are very nice but may seem like a hawk on you due to lots of homeless in the area that tend to steal

It IS genuinely a little annoying how in your business the owner is. But to be fair. She used to run the shop with her husband. And is now a lone old woman in a so-so neighborhood, trying to run and operate a business on her own. Just, know what exactly you want, don't dither, and be open about asking for help if you have the slightest questions. Because, she is ALSO VERY, VERY knowledgable about EVERYTHING her shop sells... EVERYTHING. This woman? SHE is the one to go to for ABY qywstions you might have about fishing... I'm not too sure about the limits of her knowledge about things that her shop doesn't sell. But I know she knows ALL there is to know about the things IN her store. They also sell parts for laynets and premade ones too at a pretty decent price.

Love this spot. Great selection of Jigs. To those who say they felt like they were being watching over...haha I always feel like that in any fishing store or mom and pop place. I think it’s just the nature of it. Really nice people that have been nothing but helpful.

Ladies make you feel uncomfortable watching over every move you make as if you’re going to steal. Can’t even look at things without them telling you what they are even though you know what they are lol. Won’t ever come here again. Very small not a large selection.

Genie fishing supplies are pretty much run by two female ladies and they are just so sweet it is the wrong place to go where you know you can have a honest relationship with the owner and whatever you looking for they pretty much can they either have it or they can send you the right direction to get it but they have hooks agholor and just overall awesome but the one thing I know for therefore is lures as far as for whipping yes
