I had spinal fusion surgery by Dr. Deckey from L5 to L3 on 12/13/2021.
Now MRI shows subtle clumping of the cauda equina nerve roots at the left of L4-L5 level which could suggest ARACHNOIDITIS/FAILED BACK SURGERY. Now my left buttock pains consistently. My left thigh is squeezing, tingling...
Tramadol, Gabapentin, Robaxin medication does NOT help releasing pain.
Please be careful to decide surgery...

I recently underwent surgery with Dr. Jeffrey Deckey for a 2.1cm bulged herniated disc, and the experience was outstanding. Dr. Deckey's skill and care were evident from the first consultation to the successful surgery. His team, both in Orange and Irvine, provided exceptional support, making my journey through surgery and recovery smooth and comfortable. I am profoundly grateful and highly recommend Dr. Deckey and his team for their top-notch care and professionalism

Dr. Deckey is the best and so is his staff!! He performed a lumbar fusion on me and I have been pain free for 2 years now. Whenever I have a question or a follow up need, he and his staff are quick to answer and provide me with solutions. I couldn’t be happier with my experience and relationship with him and his office.

I went to see Dr. Deckey for a second opinion because I was told at 45 years of age that I needed a huge surgery to correct my back. I was diagnosed with a double deformity of kyphosis and scoliosis. My uncle who is a doctor said this is going to be a life changing operation I know Dr. Deckey is out of network and won't be covered by your insurance but I'd like you to see him because I have heard he is the best. So I made the appointment to see him at which time I was told and made quite clear by the front staff that because of the complexity of his cases despite having an appointment there could be a 2-3 hour wait. Wow… seems like a long time but again this is an appointment for back surgery which pretty much ranks in about the #1 position of things you want the best outcome for.

Dr. Deckey confirmed that I did in fact need all the surgery and perhaps additional levels to properly fix my back. I went into the appointment quite impressed after reading his profile. If you haven't read it yet go ahead while your waiting for your appointment and check out his profile. He not only attended the best schools but he absolutely excelled. Ranked amongst the top of his class his education and knowledge can only be complimented by his level of expertise.

Appointment #2 with Dr. Deckey Planned procedure: LUMBAR 5 TO SACRAL 1 ANTERIOR DISCECTOMY WITH CAGE AND INSTRUMENTATION. THORACIC 4 TO SACRAL 1 POSTERIOR FUSION, INSTRUMENTATION, ILIAC FIXATION, POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL LEVELS. All my questions answered, consent form signed, surgery scheduled for 11/1/21.

It's been 6 weeks since massive back surgery and my back feels GREAT! Much stronger than before and my previous back pain is gone. Every person I came in contact with at the hospital said Dr. Deckey is the best. My anesthesiologist told me before my surgery if he were to ever need back surgery Dr. Deckey would be his surgeon. My back looks amazing so straight and the huge hump is gone. Dr. Deckey deserves nothing less than a perfect rating. I read through his ratings and reviews online and all the 5 star reviews are regarding his surgical outcomes. Then you have the 1 star because people are upset they had to wait 1 or 2 hours for their appointment. I am telling you right now Dr. Deckey is worth it! So do yourself a favor if you have an appointment and take the morning or afternoon off. Actually take the entire day off that way you don't have to get upset if it takes a while to see him. And for his patients who are upset because he wasn't doting by their bedside after surgery, get over it. You already won the lottery if he performed your surgery now let someone else share the Dr. Deckey jackpot. His time is best spent helping patients who need surgery. His PA's are awesome. Chris saw me every day I was in the hospital and my first follow up appointment was with Chris. I could not be more happy with Dr. Deckey and his entire staff, they are the best.

I have been a patient of Dr. Deckey since 2004. He worked with me four years before my first spine surgery, a 5-level cervical fusion. A few years later a 5-level lumber fusion was required, followed up with a third 5-level fusion above the lumber. Dr. Deckey has kept me up-right and walking. He has treated me with respect, compassion, and remarkable skill. His staff, from the front office, to the PA, and Carmen have been nothing but excellent for these years. I'm suffering again with complications, I live out of state now and after calling Carmen I had the approval for new MRI tests in one day. I look forward to seeing Dr. Deckey in March, 2018, and solving these new problems.

Fifteen years ago I had L5-S1surgery by Dr. Deckey and was very happy. I now have a Cervical issue needing surgery and cannot even get into to see him other than a PA a month out and cannot drive because of it. I personally do not do well with PAs since they misdiagnosed pneumonia once before with me that landed me in the hospital. I have to search for a new orthopedic because now Dr. Deckey is too busy to see me. Price of fame.

Dr Deckey is simply the best. He was the 3rd surgeon i had consulted with. Im 32 and have been dealing with back pain for about a decade. The last 2 years have been filled with severe pain, all types of conservative treatments (countless spine injections, numerous nerve root ablations, PT, massage, yoga, meds, etc) all of which failed and i continued to get worse.
During the consult we discussed the 2 spinal anomalies that i have, along with degenerative changes, bone spurs, and herniated discs. He mentioned that im so young to have so many issues/such great pain (the same as the first 2 surgeons, except with those 2, the convo ended there). Dr deckey continued..."i believe your pain is real. I want to help you. I just dont wamt to rush into surgery without knowing for sure or with more confidence where your pain is coming from." I knew right then this was my dude! He didnt write me off...HE WANTS TO HELP ME!
We came up with a plan that included me getting another facet injection in 1 vertebral joint only, to use as a diagnostic tool. Luckily he picked the right one the first time! Lol. Once it was convinced he had found the source of pain, we scheduled surgery. From consult to surgery, it took about 4 or 5 months, partly bc of scheduling issues with my pain specialist to get said spine injection. (Dr deckey doesnt do them). The last 2 months before surgery id gotten so bad that i had to leave work. I lived in bed for those months and it was hell! I literally couldnt sit for more than 30 minutes. Standing or walking? Forget it! I felt like a shell of a human being with nothing to offer anymore. All i could do was lie down.
I had an ALIF at L5-S1 in june of this year, and havent looked back. All though in the moment, waiting became frustrating and fed my hoplessness, im now forever grateful that dr deckey took the time to do the extra diagnostic testing. My leg pain is gone, my back pain is no where near what it used to be. Im working with my pain specialist on coming off of strong opiates after 2 years, I'm present in my friends lives, and i actually look forward to the future! I smile when its a beautiful day outside, instead of getting thrown into a tailspin of negative self talk about how useless I had become. Just this last weekend i got to be at my friend's son's 3rd bday party!
Dr deckey and his team are just incredible. There really is something to be said about a doctor that is so skilled at what he does, yet remains humble. My trust was well placed in the hands of dr deckey, and yours will be too, if you ever find yourself needing an orthopedic/spine surgery.

Dr. Deckey did a great job. I feel grateful that he was my surgeon. The surgery was two years ago. It was a fusion at L4 L5. So far so good!
